Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh made an appearance on Newstalk's Breakfast Show this morning and told Ivan Yates about the likely date for the featherweight's title fight against Jose Aldo.

It had been expected that the bout would take place at UFC 187, scheduled for May 23rd, but Kavanagh says that a date later in the summer, possibly July, is more likely.

It's not 100% yet. There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year.

So I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights, I would just say hold on. Hold on until the UFC officially announce but it does look like it will be later in the year. Mid-summer maybe.

It'll be in Vegas, fighting capital of the world.

He also spoke about the reasons for the fight not being held at Croke Park.

I would certainly loved it to be Ireland. Unfortunately there's a few problems. It would have to be in a stadium, maybe Croke Park and the problem with that is you have a curfew. 11pm, it has to all shut down.

They did a big event in Stockholm last weekend but it didn't start until 2am or 3am Stockholm time, for pay-per-view time in the States.

They have a massive drop in revenue and also the cost in setting up Croke Park with all the major screens. It's just financial thing unfortunately. But we're hoping go over there, win the belt and twist their arm and get the first defence in Dublin.
