Another weekend of GAA action is upon us, and with it, the opportunity to win (but most likely lose) money from the bookies. Last week, our 14-1 accumulator came good. We're back for more.
It's the first properly busy GAA weekend and there are a few glaring bets which we would be dumb to ignore. Three of the four games we chose are return encounters, so there is form to go on.
Our picks:
- Dublin -4 vs Wexford
- Kerry +3 vs Offaly
- Tipp -4 vs Cork
- Tyrone -3 vs Derry
Our reasoning:
- Dublin vs Wexford is the game we feel least sure of. We don't really like the Dubs in Croker, and we don't really see this Dublin team running up a big score on anybody. That said, the Dunne era is limping to an end and Lee Chin is likely out. We foresee a close game that Dublin stretch out in the final ten minutes.
- Exactly two months ago, Kerry beat Offaly by one point in Birr. Tomorrow they meet in Tullamore. Things have only got worse for Offaly since that defeat to the Kingdom, and while we expect their best performance of the year tomorrow, there's no way there's more than a goal between these two teams.
- Cork and Tipp played in the last round of the league. Tipp won by 12. Cork have shed some well-known names from their panel, but I don't see how they'll bridge that 12-point deficit. Pride in the jersey isn't worth four goals. Tipp are off everyone's radar at the moment and Mick Ryan will be looking to lay down a marker tomorrow.
- Derry and Tyrone meet for the third time in 2016 on Sunday. Game #1 was a tense and violent cup final that ended in a draw that Tyrone won well in extra time. Game #2 was a Tyrone blowout. Where is the truth? Closer to the first game, but Tyrone are arguably the second best team in Ireland and if the league is anything to go by, Derry are only average.
