Up-and-coming Irish defender Alix Mendez has taken the next step in her career as she moves from her native Cork City to mid-table of the Scottish Women's Premier League, Aberdeen, who could use some of her defensive prowess and versatility to boost their league status.
Alix Mendez: From Cork to Aberdeen
Mendez started her youth career with Wilton before signing to Cork City at 15 years old to play in the National League. She then went to Treaty United for a spell of two years before returning to Cork City in 2023.
Mendez was vital to Cork's success in their cup campaigns to the semi-finals of the Women’s Cup and Avenir Sports All-Island Cup. The 20-year old missed only three games in 2024 and was a consistent star for the Leesiders. Though her accolades do not just start there, Mendez was already thriving, winning the League of Ireland with both Cork City and Treaty United on an U17s level.
Now her journey at Aberdeen begins.
Aberdeen's Big Signing
Her new manager, Scott Booth is eager to get Mendez into the squad, and could have her starting for the Dons before the week is out, as they face Partick Thistle on Wednesday night.
Alix is a versatile young player who will bring even more competition to the squad. I am looking forward to working with her.
Mendez's tenacity is evident both on and off the pitch, with her first time speaking as an Aberdeen player giving the air of a confident and driven character with a storied career ahead of her.
There is a strong possibility that we could be seeing her in a national jersey representing Ireland alongside the Girls in Green sometime soon. Looking at how her career is going so far, she will be a welcome addition to Carla Ward's side.
