The incident may have happened nearly seven months ago, but goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has been banned for two months by The FA for eating a pie.
Shaw gained worldwide publicity as the substitute goalkeeper for Sutton United when they played Arsenal in the FA Cup Fifth Round. Shaw was seen on the sidelines eating a pie near the end of the match.
It emerged afterwards that a betting company offered odds on the goalkeeper eating the pie on tv, which he revealed he told some friends about that.
Once the story broke, Shaw was asked by the club to resign, despite his off-field work at the club.
On Wednesday afternoon, his case was finally brought on front of an FA disciplinary committee at Wembley. He was given a two-month ban and a small fine, the FA revealed.
Wayne Shaw has been fined £375 and immediately suspended from all football and all football-related activity for two months after he was charged in relation to a breach of FA Rules.
It was alleged the former Sutton United goalkeeper intentionally influenced a football betting market during the FA Cup Fifth Round tie against Arsenal on Monday, February 20, 2017, contrary to FA Rule E5(a).
The charge, which he denied, was found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today.
