The name Lee Trundle is one that carries a lot of weight for anybody who was a fan of Soccer AM's 'Showboat' back in the glory days of Sky Sports' Saturday morning show.
A hero at Swansea City while they were struggling in the lower leagues of English football, Trundle would appear week after week, wowing audiences with his slick skills and magnificent goals, wit most watching in agreement that the boy should be allowed to showcase his talent on a bigger stage.
This writer even personally asked Brian Kerr to call Trundle up and give him a chance at an open training session in 2005, to which the then manager of the Republic of Ireland replied:
Have ye seen him play?!
Needless to say I was heart-broken.
Trundle qualified for Ireland and publicly declared it his dream to pull on the green jersey, but that never happened. Instead he will have to settle with being a Swansea City legend, and an entertainer to all, but thankfully he is still going strong at the age of 39.
Trundle now lines out for Llanelli Town A.F.C. who play in the Welsh Football League Division 2, and their tactics of "Get the bloody ball to Trundle" appear to be working well for them, as their star striker bagged a three minute hat-trick of sublime goals this weekend against Abergavenny.
To emphasise just how quickly Trundle bagged the three goals, the footage is unedited and runs just over three and a half minutes. The first is a long-range free-kick, the second a tidy finish for a solo goal, and the third a wonderfully delicate chip.
Lee Trundle, you are one hell of a showman.
You've got to love him celebrating the third in front of two fans as well, a lovely non-league moment.
