We know that McClean is prone to a few rash challenges, most notably getting booked a minute after coming on against Georgia during Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifiers. You know it's a bad tackle when Danny Mills says he deserved to be sent off on BBC's Final Score, while on Soccer Saturday; Jeff and the boys were also in agreement that the Derry man had to go.

It does look rash, and appears to have some sort of revenge aspect on Bournemouth's Adam Smith for an earlier challenge - but it appears that McClean's reputation precedes him. It's certainly not the worst McClean tackle we've ever seen. But it is late, and it does look like a swipe. Certainly not the sort of tackle that should prompt ex Leeds defender Danny Mills to say:
Terrible tackle. Deserved what he got.
Unlike another fiery Irishman, McClean didn't wait too long to exact retribution on Smith.
