This August, the streets of Dublin will be transformed when the Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon comes to town. There's a memorable half marathon and 10k through the capital's historic streets for runners of all ages.
Everyone who'll run the race will have made serious sacrifices to get themselves into shape and to the starting line. In particular, there will be six people on the streets of Dublin on 7 August with truly inspiring stories. These runners have been shortlisted for the Rock 'n' Run Icon competition, and the winner will win a trip to Las Vegas.
After seeking nominations, the organisers of the race have just announced a six-person shortlist for the Rock 'n' Run Icon competition. They are:
- Helen Sexton
- James Bermingham
- Niamh Conroy
- James McGarry
- Suzanne Alcock-Thompson
- John Quinlivan
If you visit the race website, you can read the inspiring story behind each of the six runners. From people who've lost massive amounts of weight to people who've lost loved ones to suicide, all of these nominees have found purpose and peace in long distance running. These are all running icons in their own way.
Read their stories, vote on your favourite every week and be inspired to train for this year's Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon.
