Let's start this piece by saying that by including the videos below, we're not making any comment on the musical abilities of the artists involved. Some you'll love, some you'll hate. They're merely a collection of music videos that use sports stadiums in odd or interesting ways.
Grimes - "Oblivion" - Montreal Olympic Stadium/Molson Stadium
[youtube
The dreamy, trippy music from an artist who isn't a sports fan against a backdrop of motocross racing and Canadian football. Spontaneous (looking) involvement from crowd and players too.
Martin Solveig - "Ready 2 Go" - Stade de France
[youtube
]Filmed at half time of France v Croatia, the French DJ and his majorette friends dance at the half way line in front a crowd that clearly couldn't care less. Then he choreographs a card display that shows plenty not bothering on the close up shots. The wide shots show a different picture so post-production CGI is in play. The lack of crowd involvement gives it an odd feel.
Mariah Carey - "I Want to Know What Love Is" - Yankee Stadium
[youtube
Mariah Carey in thigh-high boots, with a gospel choir covering a cheesey 80s soft rock staple im front of sad looking people at Yankee Stadium. Do we really need to comment on how peculiar this is?
Eminem - "Beautiful" - Tigers Stadium, Detroit
[youtube
]Eminem's uses this video to illustrate the decay of Detroit and from about the 3 minute mark you see some of the demolition of the old Tigers Stadium. He doesn't mention that the Tigers moved to a new €300 million stadium, but it's still interesting footage.
So can you add to the list? There's only 2 rules; the song can't be about sports or sporting events and concert footage filmed in a stadium doesn't count.
