Whereas Katie Taylor's defeat brought disappointment, Michael Conlan's brings fury. In the final stages of the Olympic games passing into total farce, Michael Conlan has been denied an Olympic medal with a disgraceful defeat to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin. Conlan utterly dominated the first and second rounds, and while the third round was admittedly close, Conlan was by far the better boxer. What's more, the stats afterwards prove the fight should have gone to Conlan.
Conlan reacted with righteous fury to the announcement, and before giving an astonishingly enraged interview to RTE, he ripped off his top, gave the judges the finger, roaring at the judges.
