We loved the clip, we laughed, we shared it, and now we're watching it grow into something magnificent.
Irish Rugby's YouTube video is on the verge of 300,000 views, and that's not counting the Facebook pages that have ripped it without permission, but we've seen it pop up in some unusual places, and poor Luke Fitz has been the butt of the joke all around the World.
Firstly, ourselves and all the Irish outlets rightfully jumped on it, but soon it slowly took over the World.
Sky Sports Were Right On It:
And they really liked it:
With teammates, coaching staff and the four-time major champion all watching with interest, Fitzgerald confidently stepped up to the tee box, only for his drive to leave those around him in stitches.
The Aussies Enjoyed It:
And here is what the Sydney Morning Herald said about it:
It's a good thing Ireland back Luke Fitzgerald can play rugby because he would never make it as golfer after another Irishman - Northern Ireland superstar Rory McIlroy - dropped by to give the team some tips.
So Did The Americans:
'For The Win' is the online blog for USA Today:
This is like every golfer’s nightmare. You meet Rory McIlroy, get handed a golf club, everybody takes a step back to watch and then … thwack! Disaster.
On More Than One Site:
CBS Sports, the home of Superbowl 50 apparently.
I have to be honest. I usually don't think silly clips like this one are very funny. Maybe that's because I've seen about 1,000 of them. This one, though? I didn't know what to expect in this one when rugby stud Luke Fitz tried to show off his driver to Rory McIlroy.
I laughed for quite a while after seeing what happened. The reaction by everyone around him is pure joy, McIlroy included. Great stuff (and we've all been there).
Time Magazine? Really?
Yes, really, via their website.
Professional golfer Rory McIlroy shared a hilarious video on Facebook Monday that shows Luke Fitzgerald, who plays for Ireland’s rugby team, swinging—and very much missing. He lets go of the club mid-swing at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales, leaving a divot for the ages. But what’s almost better than the shot is the laughter that ensues.
It Also Made It's Way To France:
L'Equipe, of all places, decided to share Luke's moment. We thought a google translate job would be more amusing here:
Present yesterday at the Millennium Stadium for the match Ireland - France in the Rugby World Cup, Rory McIlroy met XV Clover today. The program includes a session of driving where the center Luke Fitzgerald has amused gallery, without his knowledge.
Can't Forget Golf Digest:
One of the most popular Golfing sites in the World had a chuckle at Lukey.
McIlroy hit balls and gave pointers to the guys. Apparently, star Luke Fitzgerald needs a few more lessons. Check out his attempted drive that had the four-time major champion and everyone else in attendance cracking up.
And If That Wasn't Enough..
Brian O'Driscoll still won't let him live it down.
Poor Luke.
Honestly, we've heard he's actually a decent golfer, which makes this all worse. Hopefully he gets the chance to prove himself in the future.
In the meantime, we'll just watch the clip again.
