Newcastle managed to pull off a very surprising result as they defeated a Liverpool side in great form since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp at St.James' Park on Saturday evening.
The reds were looking to close the gap on the league leaders, but now sit 9 points behind Leicester City after Martin Skrtel put the ball into his own net and Giorginio Wijnaldum confirmed the result with a second goal in injury time.
The result did not come without controversy however, as with the score at 1-0 Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno scored with a sublime finish that was ruled out for offside in the 78th minute. Replays then showed that Moreno was clearly onside:
With over 15 minutes left to play due to the five minutes of injury time, an equaliser at that point could have given Klopp's men the boost they needed to go and snatch a victory, but instead they were caught out while trying desperately to find an equaliser, and Liverpool fans were furious:
Absolutely shocking decision ruling Moreno offside here, robbed us of a point. #LFC pic.twitter.com/LRRNKvXXTU

How has the linesman called this offside when the nearest player to him is playing Moreno onside? #LFC pic.twitter.com/RSWf7cDRAR

If that was offside Sports Direct is a high-end clothing retailer.

If Moreno's goal had stood, it would of been such a different story ?

Of course, not all Liverpool fans were blaming the incorrect decision for the result:
I'm ready to hear all the excuses and moans about Moreno's goal disallowed. In the end we were poor and didn't deserve to win

Can moan about the Moreno decision all we like but Klopp got his selection massively wrong today & we got what we deserved. Reality check.

#LFC disappointing result, especially after Moreno offside, but just a bad day at the office. Geordies probably edged it over the 90 mins

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back at home to West Brom next week, and continue their upward curve in terms of form and performances under Klopp.
