Media's encroachment onto the sporting arena is happening gradually but don't fear, some day soon it will have consumed sport entirely, to the point that it will be impossible to tell where the game begins and the entertainment experience begins. That encroachment took another step at the weekend when Aussie broadcaster Fox Sports introduced the post-try interview.
Henry Speight had just bundled over to give the Brumbies a 5-0 lead against the Western Force. Sideline reporter Natalia Yoannidis then stepped on the field of play to interview a breathless Speight, and the results were comical.
