He's been back in training for the past couple of months but now it looks like Noel McGrath could make an incredible return to Championship action against Galway next weekend. Tipperary manager Eamon O’Shea has confirmed that the 24 year old is 'in the mix' ahead of the All Ireland semi-final clash.
McGrath hasn't played for his county since undergoing surgery for testicular cancer back in April. Although, it was never ruled out, it was always going to be a huge ask for him to return before the end of the Championship.
Hopes were raised in that regard when news emerged in June that McGrath had returned to light training with the county set-up. The 2009 Young Hurler of the Year has obviously been progressing apace since then because O'Shea has been raising hopes that we'll see McGrath run out at Croke Park next Sunday.
Noel is progressing well. It’s a serious thing so you just have to wait and see how he goes and what happens.
He’s been hurling away with us and he has played for his club a couple of times. It’s great credit to him in terms of it’s good to get back doing things he likes doing, like any of us.
He’s in the mix.
Whatever about the incredible recovery from his surgery, Tipperary fans will no doubt be delighted to have him back for what he can bring to the Premier county's bid for a first All Ireland title in five years.
