Dublin will formally begin their season as reigning All-Ireland Champions on Saturday as they face Monaghan in Croke Park in the first round of the Allianz Football League. Here's all you need to know about Dublin v Monaghan.
Fresh from their O'Byrne Cup final loss vs Longford, Dublin will look to add a few more familiar faces to their squad after fielding inexperienced teams for the opening rounds of the season. Dublin will also be mourning the retirement of their influential forward Dean Rock who called quits on his career last week. Dublin manager Dessie Farrell paid fitting tribute to Rock after the match.
"He was the whole package really. It wasn't just his ability to deal with challenging times and adversity but the composure he showed over the years when it mattered most was immense. His general talent as well.
He is a leader, an all round really, really good team-mate. There are plenty of them but there are special ones from time to time and Dean was one of those and he will be sorely missed by the group."
Conversely, Monaghan haven't played since their McKenna Cup semi final defeat by Donegal. They will have the bit between their teeth as they attempt to right the wrongs of their All Ireland semi final loss to Dublin last year. Monaghan received a boost last week with star goalkeeper Rory Beggan returning to training before he leaves for the NFL Combine.
