We've just released our new app, which you can get on iPhone here and on Android here, and to celebrate our shameless marketing efforts we thought we'd take a look at a staple of the Irish sporting landscape in the late 90s/early 2000s. The humble phone photocall.
Apps, handsets, landlines, it doesn't matter what you're buying, there's an Irish sports star ready to sell it to you and it's simply wonderful.
Since of the dawn of technology, Irish people have decided it would be a great idea to take pictures of sports stars with phones.
Of course the idea is to promote something to do with said phones - usually - but not every sports star was able to grasp the idea, while others got carried away.
Here's a quick and handy guide on to set up the perfect Irish sporting photocall.
Step 1: Attempt to strangle someone in the middle with the chords
Of course, that's a little redundant these days with this new "wireless" phenomena. It'll never catch.
Step 2: Invent the selfie
True story - Shamrock Rover's star Damien Duff invented the selfie way back in 1980.
Step 3: Start a dangerous trend of walking with your phone with your mates blocking up the entire street and not looking where you are going
It's up to others to watch out for you right?
Step 4: Include the Molly Malone statue in background
How would anyone know you are in Ireland otherwise?
Step 5: Hold your phone in a very unnatural way
It's still quite mean of Long and O'Dea to be calling each other without including Doyle.
Step 6: If that fails, go for the failsafe of all Irish sporting photocalls - the models
The old reliable.
Step 7: Oversized Phones Are A Huge Winner
Step 8: If it's not an oversized phone, hold it out way in front of you
This phone is close, those phones are far away.
Step 9: If your name is Richard Dunne, showcase your Jedi-like powers
Step 10: Play it cool and don't even look at what you are doing a la Alan Quinlan
Step 11: Don't actually use the phones - bring a loudspeaker to project your voice instead
Step 12: Don't bother getting out of your car for the shoot, you don't have time
Step 13: Get some kids to do some 'rad' tricks in the background
Step 14: If something happens to GAA star #5 then be prepared to improvise
Once the focus isn't on the main people anymore
Step 15: Don't actually plug in the phone
Why would you want a real one?
The bigger the phone the better
