A request to combine the Ladies and Men's All-Ireland Semi-Finals next Saturday in Croke Park, has been denied by the GAA on account of the All-Hurling Finals due to take place the following day.
Following the result of the drawn game yesterday, officials in the Ladies Gaelic Football Association lodged a submission to the GAA in the hope of incorporating the Ladies Intermediate and Senior Semi-Finals as curtain raisers for the Dublin v Mayo replay.
Derek Kinnevey of the LGFA, explained to Balls.ie, the complications associated with the suggestion.
We discussed the idea of a double header but unfortunately it was rejected. We were going to be bringing two Semi-Finals, which means that Croke Park would be staging five games across two days which is a lot to be fair.
Kildare v Offaly makes up the pairing in the Ladies Intermediate Semi-Final while Dublin will take on Armagh in the Senior Ladies game. But due to the sell-out response of yesterday's replay result, Derek Kinnevey says that this would implicate the number of Ladies GAA supporters who would be able to get a ticket to see their county play.
The ticketing issue could mean that supporters from Armagh, Kildare and Offaly wouldn't be guaranteed a ticket so there's a lot more to it than people are aware of. It's unfortunate but we have rescheduled our games to avoid any clashes.
The Dublin contingent will have vested interests in both the male and female Semi-Finals, in particular the McCaffrey family of the Clontarf club. Daughter Sarah plays a prominent role as part of the Dublin Ladies team while her brother Jack was arguably the player of the match in yesterday's game and is an integral cog in Jim Gavin's team.
The Ladies Semi-Finals will be played in Parnell Park and will be broadcasted live on TG4. The revised schedule for the games was confirmed earlier today.
Intermediate: Kildare v Offaly - 12.15pm
Senior: Dublin v Armagh - 2.00pm
