Paris and Los Angeles were the only two cities to reach the final stage of bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Such was the strength of both bids, the IOC previously announced that both cities would host the 2024 and 2028 competitions, such was the lack of suitable applicants for Olympic Games in recent years.

The Los Angeles Times have revealed that the American city will host the 2028 edition, with Paris welcoming the world to France in 2024, 100 years after it previously hosted the games.

According to the LA Times, the Californian city will host the 2028 Games, as Paris were unwilling to move from their 2024 bid.

The French capital has bid for three Olympic Games in the past 30 years, and came closest to hosting their third Olympics in 2012, but came up short to London.

Los Angeles last hosted the Olympics in 1984. It will become the third city to host the Games on three occasions, following in the footsteps of London and Paris.

Ireland has had success in both cities in previous Olympiads. In Los Angeles in 1932, Bob Tisdall and Pat O'Callaghan both won gold, while John Treacy was a silver medalist 52-years later in the men's Marathon.

The 1924 Olympics in Paris was Ireland's first under without being under the British banner. In 1900, Limerick's Pat Leahy was a silver and bronze medal, while Kerry's Harold Mahony  won two silvers and a bronze medal.

With 2024 and 2028 both looking like successful Olympic and Paralympic Games, the pressure is on for Tokyo to deliver in 2020.
