We got our first look at the trailer for the new Batman film simply titled The Batman over the weekend. But that's not all the Batman news we got as Matt Reeves, director of the film, spoke about an upcoming TV series that will take place before the movie.
The prequel series will be written by Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter with the pair also producing the show. According to Comingsoon.net Reeves said that the show will delve deeper into the corruption of the Gotham City Police Department during the time Batman was first seen on the streets of Gotham.
The idea is we go back to Year One. Year One is the beginning, it’s the first appearance of this masked vigilante that unsettles the city.
You start to see the story through the point of view of these corrupt cops and one in particular. The story is actually a battle for his soul. He’s a cop over generations and the history of corruption in Gotham is enormous and goes back many years.
We think it's safe to assume that the corrupt cop he's is talking about will be Jim Gordon who will be played by Westworld's Jeffrey Wright in the new film.
There is no release date announced for this upcoming series but the film will be released on October 21 2021.
