Many in Ireland may have missed HBO Max's satirical black-comedy The White Lotus, but the show made waves in US and was widely praised.
Superb comedic performances from the likes of Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's Mom), Jake Lacy (The Office US), and the lesser-known but MVP of the show Murray Bartlett, lead to rave reviews from such esteemed publications such as the Guardian, which called it 'a magnificently monstrous look at how the other half live'.
The White Lotus : Best Show of 2022?
Written and created by Mike White (writer of the School of the Rock, and starred in it as the real Ned Schneebly), the series follows the lives of a group of wealthy tourists at an upmarket Hawaiian hotel, and their interactions with each other and the staff over a number of days.
It serves not only as a slap-stick comedy, but also takes a biting look at inequality and modern 'wokeness', through the eyes of a range of expertly written and nuanced characters.
Furthermore, it is a self-contained show with only six episodes in the first season, perfect for binging in a short amount of time. All episodes are currently available to watch on NOW TV.
