Ryan Tubridy and agent to the stars Noel Kelly are in front of two Dáil committees today at Leinster House. The Irish public has been waiting for weeks to hear from both of these men, and productivity across the nation grinded to a halt around 11am as both men began their contributions.
It's been eye-opening and surreal that it's come to this. If you're looking for an alternative approach to viewing the whole thing, we suggest watching along with The Viper over on his youtube page. Francis Higgins and his friend Tommy Schlug have been offering their own take on proceedings, and you can join the 1000+ people were watching the early stream.
Here's a link to the afternoon session before the Dáil's media committee.
So far we've seen a lot of real-time photoshop experiments and lots of withering reaction in the comments.
Ryan Tubridy's statement
Tubridy began the day by making a 12-minute long introductory statement where he apologised again for the scandal.
Given the events of the last three weeks, there is a lot that I wish and need to say, and I hope you will bear with me. My aim is to help correct and clarify some very serious matters and I will be relying on my agent Noel Kelly to go through the figures and provide greater detail.
I want everybody here today to understand that the figures and statements presented by RTÉ over the last few weeks in relation to my remuneration have created a fog of confusion over what I was paid and when I was paid, what I knew and when I knew. Full transparency and disclosure on RTÉ's part would have avoided this.
I am here to do one thing and one thing only: to set the record straight and to call out some untruths.
He then called out seven untruths.
Tubridy also suggested he was being 'cancelled' amid the controversy.
More as we get it...
