It's safe to say that the film industry has been hit pretty hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Social distancing measures has seen cinemas shut worldwide, with a number of massive releases having their release date pushed back as a result.
A Quiet Place Part II, The Batman, Black Widow, Doctor Strange Into The Multiverse of Madness, The Forever Purge, Jungle Cruise, Mission Impossible: 7, No Time to Die, and Thor: Love and Thunder are just some of the movies that have been pushed back to later this year or even 2021.
Considering this, streaming sites are the only place you will find new movies at the minute, with one title coming to Netflix tomorrow looking like it could be a decent watch.
The Lovebirds stars Silicon Valley's Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae as a couple on the brink of splitting up who accidentally become involved in a murder mystery plot, having to go to some extreme measures to clear their name.
However, the plot isn't all as serious as it sounds. You can watch the trailer for the movie below:
Netflix describes the movie as:
A couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious - circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
Early reviews for the film have been fairly promising. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian said that is the type of easy viewing comedy that could go down a treat at the moment:
Creating unforgettable cinema isn’t easy, but neither is creating forgettable cinema: goofy, likeable comedy of the sort that slides through your mind, leaving behind that most easily patronised of movie effects: a good feeling.
The Lovebirds... it’s something you might watch on a plane. Right now, that’s no putdown: an unappreciated comfort from happier times.
The Lovebirds will be available on Netflix tomorrow, May 22nd.
