After receiving an Emmy nomination for his work in Normal People and getting to collaborate with The Rolling Stones and Dermot Kennedy, 2020 has been a pretty decent year for Paul Mescal and he's got another new show being released too, The Deceived.
Decent being a massive understatement there!
However, two other talented people that have experienced major success recently are Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee and actor Emmett J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders, Gangs of London, The Fall).
Well, all three are combining for The Deceived which will be airing on Virgin Media on September 7.
The first two episodes will air back-to-back on Virgin Media One at 9pm.
In terms of the plot, expect a sinister tale of lust, manipulation and betrayal.
Written by Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer, the thriller tells the story of a student who falls in love with her married lecturer.
The events revolve around the college student Ophelia (Emily Reid – Belgravia, Curfew), who falls in love with her married lecturer, seeing in him all the answers to her needs.
When their affair is interrupted by a shocking and tragic death, Ophelia finds herself trapped in a world where she can no longer trust her own mind. Emmett J. Scanlan plays the timelessly attractive and charismatic Irish lecturer Dr Michael Callaghan.
However, the cast also includes Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls) who plays Michael’s father Hugh fighting the oncoming tide of dementia.
As for Mescal, he plays Sean McKeough, a local builder who becomes Ophelia’s confidante. Catherine Walker (Shetland, Versailles), Eleanor Methven (Little Women), Shelley Conn (Liar), and Dempsey Bovell (Patrick Melrose) also star.
Virgin TV customers will also be able to binge-watch the entire series exclusively on Virgin TV on Demand from September 7).
