The world of comedy was dealt some absolutely terrible news today as the death of comedian Sean Lock was announced. Lock had been suffering from cancer and died at age 58. The British comedian was the king of the comedy panel programme, appearing regularly on '8 Out Of 10 Cats' and basically everything that Jimmy Carr presented.
His agent released a statement this morning confirming the news:
“Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.
“Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children.
“Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
Social media is full of tributes to Lock today, as the UK's best and funniest comedians remember an icon who is gone far too soon.
It’s heartbreaking to lose my dearest friend Sean Lock , he was a true original, a wonderful comic. All my thoughts are with his family.

Brutal news about Sean Lock today.
I loved him. I’m watching clips of him right now - laughing & crying. I’ll miss him so much.— Jimmy Carr (@jimmycarr) August 18, 2021
Here are six iconic Sean Lock moments. The UK panel show will not be the same.
Sean Lock best sketches
Perhaps most fitting to this post, Lock had the perfect reply to a Jimmy Carr question about what he'd like his obituary to say.
“What would you like your obituary to say?”
“Ideally, nooooooo, whyyyyyy.”
Such a funny bloke, great dry sense of humour

Winning At Carrot In The Box
Lock played the famed Carrot In The Box game to a genius level with Jon Richardson on 8 Out Of 10 Cats in the skit he might be best remembered for.
The Tiger Who Came For A Pint
Lock wasn't just a comedian, he also had some a childrens book in him, like this one about a tiger who drinks strong lager.
Very sad news about Sean Lock. One of the funniest comedians on TV.
His “The Tiger who came for a pint” on 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown, one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
Will be greatly missed, RIP. pic.twitter.com/qPfB3Uv1K2— Tim Shires (@timshires) August 18, 2021
Having a cut at child actors during Christmas
Here's another of Sean Lock's funniest moments. He never shied away from telling the truth, even if it meant telling some child actors they were shite.
Here’s Sean Lock being the funniest fucking guy ever. Cried with laughter at the time and still do rewatching it now. pic.twitter.com/NZMNhkZr4G

His Michael Jackson impression
James Corden couldn't contain himself at this very harmless impression of Michael Jackson working at a Devon tea shop.
One of my all time favourite clips of Sean Lock is his impressions of Michael Jackson when it was rumoured he was moving to Devon.
He literally carried 8 out of 10 Cats, incredibly funny. pic.twitter.com/5YrDlK1loj— Dan Reilly (@DanReilly92) August 18, 2021
Stumbling around the Countdown set
He also did physical comedy.

His first tweet
You can hear Sean Lock's voice in your head when you read this tweet from 2011.
I think Sean Lock’s first ever Twitter post (and he only ever posted one other tweet) sums him up beautifully. pic.twitter.com/kxw1h8n2pu

And a bonus anecdote for the hell of it about meeting Paul McCartney.
I met Paul McCartney because of Sean Locke, just after meeting Sean himself. He shouted “Oi Paul!” Across Soho Sq, Paul waved back, came over and chatted for half an hour. When he left I said “How do you know him?” Sean said “I don’t, but he knows he’s Paul McCartney doesn’t he”
