It's safe to say that this is the most straight forward instalment of The Rewind Recommends with today's pick standing out a mile. The Irishman stood out as one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the year - hell, even the decade - and today it finally drops on Netflix.
Where do you start? Directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Messrs De Niro, Pacino and Pesci, The Irishman has been in cinemas since the beginning of November and it has been nearly impossible to escape the coverage. All of it has been positive thankfully and a quick look across the internet will show you just how well the movie has been received.
Four and a half stars out of five on Screen Rant, 3.5 out of 4 stars on The Washington Post, five stars on both RTÉ and The Irish Times. Variety describe is at as:
A coldly enthralling, long-form knockout — a majestic mob epic with ice in its veins. It’s the film that, I think, a lot us wanted to see from Scorsese: a stately, ominous, suck-in-your-breath summing up, not just a drama but a reckoning, a vision of the criminal underworld that’s rippling with echoes of the director’s previous mob films, but that also takes us someplace bold and new.
So, safe to say, it's worth watching!
