While Prison Break inevitably suffered from the law of diminishing returns, there's no denying the giddy thrill of the earlier seasons as its gripping story and unique story structure made it stand out from the crowd.
It also helped that show was serialised on RTÉ, meaning that it still has a healthy fanbase with Irish audiences.
Granted, not every season of the show hit the high standards that were set in Season 1, but the nostalgic appeal is strong and we'd like to think that if Fox is bringing it back, they're going to bring it back with a bang.
Well, Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows) has sparked speculation that season six could be on the way with a recent Instagram post.
The show last aired in 2017 with The Final Break and at the end of the TV movie, Lincoln is shown on a boat moving to the Dominican Republic.
However, after Purcell uploaded a close-up shot earlier this month, the Lincoln Burrows actor teased in the caption: "Hearing #october," next to the clapperboard and camera emojis.
A few months ago, the star of Blade: Trinity also discussed the prospects of Prison Break Season 6 via Instagram.
"I get smashed with 'when is Prison Break Season 6 happening?'. What I can promise is this. We are all in agreement that if the story is worthy, it will get made. Now with the horror of this virus, the calamity of it all drills inside me a new focus, a steely resolve with Prison Break 6– I'm very optimistic with social distancing and a fierce adherence to expert opinion on how to beat this catastrophic unprecedented event, we all as one will be victorious over coronavirus – corporations such as Netflix are desperate for content. I won't comment on PB 6 until it is time."
At present, nothing official has been confirmed about Prison Break Season 6 but it appears that the ball is rolling.
