In a perfect piece of casting, Nicolas Cage is set to play Joe Exotic in a scripted TV series about the Oklahoma zookeeper.
Exotic (real name is Joseph Schreibvogel) and other members of the big cat breeding community were the subject of a recent Netflix documentary series titled 'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness'.
Variety reports that the series starring Cage will be based on 'Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild', a June 2019 article in Texas Monthly magazine.
The eight-part show will be made by Imagine Television Studios and CBS. It will be Cage's first regular television role. Dan Lagana, who previously worked on Netflix series 'American Vandal', will be the showrunner.
It is the second scripted series about Joe Exotic to be in the pipeline. Late last year, it was announced that Kate McKinnon will star as Carol Baskin (Joe Exotic's nemesis) is a series based on a Wondery podcast.
