Netflix have really hung their hat on documentaries in recent years. They have been a staple of the site's original releases, with the likes of Making a Murderer, Tiger King, and Fyre all proving to be cultural phenomenons.
It is in crime programmes where they have really excelled. 13th, Abducted in Plain Sight, and The Keepers are just a few of the more well-known examples.
A new title will be added to that bunch next week. Unlike most of the site's other offerings, this one will come in the form of a feature length watch as opposed to a series.
Murder to Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story looks at the life of a then-16 year old girl who was found guilty of murder in the first degree. She was sentenced to life in prison.
However, the case raised many questions about the effectiveness of the American justice system. Brown had been abused for most of her life, finding herself forced to work as an underage prostitute. She was convicted a man who was soliciting her for sex.
You can watch the trailer below.
Brown would not be treated in such a manner were the trial to take place today, with the court failing to take into account any of the mitigating circumstances that led her to that point.
This looks like a must watch.
