When it comes to creating shows that encapsulates the public, few have mastered the art quite like Netflix.
The streaming giant has released a number of smash hit shows, with their model of dropping all episodes of a season on a given day something that has no doubt contributed to their success. The likes of Baby Reindeer, One Day, and The Gentlemen are just some of their releases that have proven to be massively popular so far in 2024.
It looks as though another show could now be added to that list, with this one set in Ireland.

New Netflix show set in Ireland looks like a potential smash hit
Bodkin was filmed in Ireland and features a largely Irish cast, even if some of the main protagonists do come from overseas. It was released on Netflix yesterday, May 9th.
It follows the story of a group of podcasters that come to Ireland to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three people a number of years before. Having a good mix of comedy as well as a bit of a darker streak, it has all the hallmarks of a Netflix hit.
Bodkin was filmed in a number of different locations across Ireland. The rural setting of the show was largely captured in West Cork, although scenes were also filmed in places in Wicklow (such as Enniskerry and Sallygap) and Dublin (Howth and Leopardstown Racecourse).
Dubliner Siobhán Cullen (Obituary, The Dry) leads the cast, with Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) and Robyn Cara (Trying) filling the roles of the other podcasters.
You can also expect to see a number of familiar Irish faces. Chris Walley of Young Offenders fame plays a sizeable role, as do the likes of David Wilmot, Ger Kelly, and David Pearse.
You can watch the trailer for the show below.
Netflix describe the show as:
Bodkin is a darkly comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town.
But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined.
With this having the potential to be a huge hit for Netflix, it will be brilliant to see some breathtaking Irish scenery be brought to the masses.
We will certainly be tuning in over the coming days.
