"Toss a coin to your Witcher, O' Valley of Plenty, O' Valley of Plenty, oh Toss a coin to your Witcher, O' Valley of Plenty."
We're very, very sorry because that song is now going to be lodged so deep in your brain that you'll need an axe in the head to remove it.
Thankfully, Waterford man Declan de Barra knows a Witcher that would be happy to help with that morbid request.
That's because Netflix have announced a prequel to their fantasy epic, The Witcher, and de Barra will oversee the whole production.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will be a six-part, live-action limited series, and a prequel to the hit Netflix series.
In terms of the plot, Blood Origin is set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher. Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time - the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Aside from his showrunning duties, Waterford man de Barra will act as Executive Producer alongside Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner of the original show.
The series' author Andrzej Sapkowski will also serve as a creative consultant on the series.
Speaking about the fantastic achievement, de Barra said: “As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin. A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books - What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans?
"I've always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall. How vast swathes of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often compounded by colonization and a rewriting of history. Leaving only fragments of a civilization’s true story behind."
While a production schedule is still in flux due to COVID, The Witcher: Blood Origin will shoot in the UK.
Bring it on!
