Among the cast of unlikely Irish viral video stars from the 2020 lockdown, none give us the shear (ed. - ahem) pleasure of Donie Anderson and his haircut demonstration. This week, Donie shared a video on Facebook of him cutting his hair with his sheep shearing scissors and it's been viewed nearly two million times now on Facebook.
If you haven't seen the wonderful video yet please enjoy.
As men and women all over the world try to figure out what to do with their unruly bobs of hair, Anderson has proven that doing it yourself is often the best solution. He's now something of an internet hair icon.
Anderson is a sheep farmer at the foothills of the Dublin mountains and runs the Dodderside Sheepdog Training establishment. He spoke to Balls.ie this morning and said he hadn't cut his hair since October or November and felt inspired to take action Wednesday morning when he saw the good weather that was forecast. He did not expect anything like the reaction he received.
"It needed to be done and I couldn't get it done anywhere else. I shear sheep any way with the hand shears."
For doing the haircut, Anderson used his phone as a mirror and a pair of sheep shears. His main point of advice for anyone considering shearing themselves is take the utmost caution.
"The main thing is be careful. You could see the amount of comments from people saying I might cut my ear off and that kind of thing. The shears wouldn't be recommended but it's a lot easier than cutting them with scissors. They've got a bigger blade and they take a bigger bite. When a barber is cutting your hair, he needs to use scissors and comb together.
Anderson said the blades were already quite clean since they wouldn't be have been used over the winter.
