Nathan Carter's brother gave him a haircut on Claire Byrne Live last night, and we've officially entered the twilight zone.
While the premise is as bizarre as it gets, the point of the segment was a smart one. With barbers and salons closed for weeks now, sicks fades around the country have become critical and in need of some emergency surgery.
RTE got in salon owner Katrina Kelly in to offer the Carters, and us, a brief guide on what it's safe to do at home without making a complete show our ourselves, bearing in mind that hairdressers are highly trained professionals and we are not.
Her big piece of advice: No scissors, no colour. Stick with the clippers.
Ultimately, Katrina says our options are either limited to a shave all over or a "trim and blend", and stay away from the top of the head.
For those of us who have never even held a clippers, Katrina does offer good advice on what to do to create a somewhat acceptable haircut. We're not entirely sure it would be safe in this writer's hands but hopefully the more steady handed among you can pick up some useful tips.
If you want a more detailed tutorial, Katrina is helping run a really helpful charity initiative during the lockdown. Staysocialandeducate.com offers hair and makeup tutorials for a small donation, just €2 and €5, and all proceeds will go to The Mater Foundation and Alone.
