Considering all that is going on in the world at the minute, people have no shortage of serious issues to worry about. But who knew the biggest of them all was staring us right in the face?

We are of course talking the carbon monoxide alarm ad. At least that was the opinion of one Liveline caller this afternoon.

For those of you unfamiliar with the advert (and we're not sure how you could be considering it is played during every single break on Irish TV at the moment), this is the one we're talking about.

A lighthearted advert with a serious message, right? Not according to Monica from Dublin, who called Liveline today to label the ad as 'a disgrace'.

She had plenty of reasons for doing so. They included, but were not limited to, the fact she thought it was taking the piss out of Ronnie Drew, that it included the word 'poxy', and that old people and non-native English speakers couldn't possibly know what the ad was about.

Here's some of what she had to say:

It's about that ad for the carbon monoxide poisoning. I think it's an absolute disgrace. There's two canaries, one with a beard and a Ronnie Drew accent, making a show of the man!

This 'poxy' and 'you won't drop dead if you don't clean your jacks' and all this sort of thing. What is it all about?

Can they not show an ad where they show people the science of carbon monoxide poisoning? Where people look out and see the ad and say 'oh god I must check and see if I've got that on my door' or wherever...

I press the mute button. As soon as it comes on - mute goes on! A lot of my friends are the same.

Monica would go on to say that it was shocking to use the slang word 'jacks' on television and that the makers should be ashamed at themselves for what she presumed to be a not so subtle dig at Dubliners great Ronnie Drew.

Poxy is an awful word to use on television or radio...

There's a lot of old people that wouldn't understand it. If they were shown what carbon monoxide can do and signs of it around their gaff or fire place they could look and see. Obviously they haven't got carbon monoxide alarms...

This canary has a beard and a Ronnie Drew accent. I think it's making a show of the late great Ronnie Drew...

The songs he is singing, it is bloody ridiculous... They need to show people what signs to look out for instead of singing stupid bloody songs...

Any of my friends that I've spoken about it with, I ask them their opinions and they said they hit the mute button the minute comes on, that it's a disgraceful ad. And that 'p' word and everything in it, it's an absolute disgrace.

It's great to see that somebody is finally speaking about the big issues in our society.
