After weeks of speculation, the new host of the Late Late Show looks to have be all but confirmed, with betting suspended on Patrick Kielty taking over from Ryan Tubridy.

The Irish Independent are also reporting that it is a 'done deal', after two weeks of 'advanced negotiations'.

The Northern Irish comedian and TV personality will be a relatively popular choice after nearly 14 years of Ryan Tubridy.

In recent times, Kielty has increased his popularity with eloquent appearances on the Tommy Tiernan show and his views on Northern Ireland and a United Ireland.

The County Down man was also in the running to take over from Gay Byrne in 1999.

Recent comments from himself and his wife Cat Deeley at the IFTA Awards were coy, but people have been eager to read between the lines and ramp up speculation.

"I've only really a couple of things to say on that I think the Late Late Show is one of the greatest TV shows on the planet, and whoever gets it is going to be really lucky," said his wife Cat Deeley.

"But I think something that maybe hasn't been said," added Kielty.
