With the weather taking a turn for the worse and less football on the TV than recent weeks, it's very likely that you'll be spending some time on the couch this weekend and if you're looking for something to watch, Knives Out on Amazon Prime should do the trick.
Taking inspiration from the 'whodunnit' genre and the likes of Cluedo, Columbo, Murder She Wrote, and Death On The Nile, Rian Johnson's murder mystery cleverly inverts the rules of the detective playbook.
With a plot that's whipsmart, dialogue that's razor-sharp, and Chris Evans making Aran jumpers cool, Knives Out proved to be a massive commercial and critical success. In fact, a sequel has already been greenlit.
In terms of the plot, when renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate.
From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
Throughout the film, you can clearly see that Daniel Craig is having a blast as he embraces his inner Peter Sellers, and with a supporting cast that includes the likes of (deep breath) Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Frank Oz, Jamie Lee Curtis, Katherine Langford, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, and the brilliant Toni Collette, every suspect has their time to shine.
With ratings of 82% and 97% on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, it's clear that the critics didn't have their knives out for Johnson's murder mystery.
You can see why because Knives Out is now available to watch on Amazon Prime.
