The pantheon of bad Irish accents in film and television has become a long and fabled one over the years, with many a Hollywood star attempting to portray themselves as somebody from this part of the world. More often than not, the results are disastrous.
There have been countless examples down through the years.
The likes of Tom Cruis (Far and Away), Julia Roberts (Michael Collins), and Gerard Butler (P.S. I Love You) have received plenty of flack for their attempts at pulling off the accent. Emily Blunt was the latest name added to the list after her appearance in the god awful Wild Mountain Thyme.
Another famous actor has now taken his life into his own hands by taking on the Irish accent.
Kit Harrington is starring in Prime Video's original release Modern Love, with the Game of Thrones star playing an Irish man who falls on love after meeting a stranger on a train travelling across the country.
As each episode of this series revolves around a different story, we are only treated to Harington's accent for one episode.
Now if you're hoping for one of the all-time terrible Irish accents, you will be left disappointed.
The Brit's accent is not perfect, but you will largely be able to listen to it without cringing. It's hard to nail down what part of the country he is supposed to be from, with some lines sounding like South Dublin and others like rural Kerry.
However, as a whole it's not a bad effort.
On the other hand, his co-star Lucy Boynton has absolutely nailed it. Listening to her, it's hard to believe she isn't Irish.
You can listen to an extended piece of dialogue between the pair below.
Boynton will go down in the Steve Coogan & Daisy Edgar-Jones hall of fame for nailed on Irish accents.
Kit Harington hasn't reached that level, but he's certainly no Tom Cruise. That's the least we would have asked for.
