The new streaming service from Disney called Disney+ launched yesterday (it will be available on these shores on March 30, 2020) and with it, the latest programme from the Star Wars universe: The Mandalorian.
It's been a trying few years for the Star Wars galaxy and their throngs of devotees. 'In crisis' might be the best way to describe the relationship between Disney and LucasFilms, who are hellbent on creating an endless assembly line of Star Wars content for their devoted fan base, who seem to hate what their beloved franchise has become, and in many cases, have behaved terribly towards the people in these movies.
Is there any hope for The Mandolarian? The show follows a nameless bounty hunter (Prince Oberon from Game of Thrones wearing a mask) who looks like Boba Fett but is not Boba Fett through the universe. Every reviewer has likened the show to the Spaghetti Western 'The Man With No Name' starring Clint Eastwood, in which a nameless bounty hunter roves the American west.
The instant feedback on first episode of The Mandalorian (only one episode has been uploaded) is amazingly and surprisingly positive. It's directed by Jon Favreau (Swingers) and features a great and weird cast like Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed and Happy Gilmore's caddy) and Taika Watiti voicing a droid. Hollywood Reporter describe it as "unexpectedly brief, exceptionally polished and reasonably fun" which are not words we associate with Star Wars any more. The LA Times called it a 'safe, entertaining blockbuster', which is what most people want these days. The Guardian, on the other hand gives it two stars, but this downbeat review is quite different from the sentiment on Twitter, where people (especially of the nerd-identifying variety) seemed very much on board with the new programme.
The Mandalorian is everything Star Wars should be.
Thank you for the amazing work @Jon_Favreau 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻— Terroriser (@Terroriser) November 13, 2019

A big issue I have with The Mandalorian is that there's no Special Family Child who's destined to save the galaxy. Don't see the point. A real snoozer.
