There is nothing in the world of sport quite like an underdog story. The dynamic of an unfancied team or individual upsetting the apple cart captures the imagination of the public unlike anything else.
We all know some of the great cinderella stories in sport: Leicester City winning the Premier League, Greece's run at Euro 2004, Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson, Average Joe's Gym going all the way in the ADAA Las Vegas International Dodgeball Open.
Now something else is on the horizon that could blow all of those out of the water.
When we began our quest here at Balls to find Ireland's greatest ever YouTube video, a few obvious contenders sprung to mind. Eamon Dunpy's Rod Liddle quip, 'man slips on ice', the beloved 'What's Snots'. Those were the big hitters, and it would take a borderline miracle for something else to break in and upset the status quo.
We managed to narrow down our original longlist to 32 videos, which were drawn into a bracket. In order to ensure the top contenders would not be eliminated early on, we divided them into seeded and unseeded entries.
We did a pretty good job. Of the 16 ties in the opening round, 14 were won by the seeded entry. It was assumed that unseeded pair would not much longer, but as we enter the semi-final stage, one remains:
Jesus, it's unreal.
Now very much in the final furlongs of our search for Ireland's greatest YouTube video, the late great Peter Casey's 'I'll have fucking sex tonight and everything' has to take home the crown.
It may not have the brand recognition of some of the other competitors, but it has just about everything else going for it.
To start with, it is incredibly Irish. While we we often see the polished and media trained sporting interviews broadcast onto our screens, there is something unique to this country in that we produce interviews featuring unbridled joy and very little regard for what is the 'right thing' to say.
Peter Casey does not hide his emotions, and expresses himself as he would were he not on camera.
This is sport in its purest form. Hell, this is Irishness in its purest form.
In terms of comedy, none of the other options come close. 'I'll have fucking sex tonight and everything' is one of the greatest lines ever delivered on live television, be it on these shores or any other.
'And I'm going away for a week' is the perfect follow up, a mic drop of sorts.
As Tracy Piggott and Casey walk out of frame, the RTÉ presenter can be heard saying 'we're going to get in terrible trouble after that one'. He didn't care, he was just looking forward to the night ahead.
There can be little doubt that this is Ireland's greatest YouTube video of all time. The others have heart, but 'I'll have sex tonight' has a man saying 'I'll have sex tonight'.
Do the right thing, Ireland. Let's give this cinderella story the ending it deserves.
