33 years on from its debut on our screens, Home and Away is still going strong.
The characters of Summer Bay still grace our screens four evenings a week and residency there still puts you in grave danger. In fact, entering Summer Bay should surely have a government warning. Only Alf Stewart appears able to survive the perils of living in the beach town a short bus journey away from Yabbie Creek, and outside of the mysterious "city."
While the show drudges on in the company of Alf, Irene, Marilyn, and a load of people we've never heard of, it's fair to say that it's a long time since the heyday of Home and Away in Ireland. For readers of a certain age, we remember 6.30pm on Network 2 as appointment viewing. In fact, this symbol meant just one thing.
And you'll be hard pressed to find anyone between the ages of 30 and 40 who wouldn't know the words of the incredible theme song.
So journey back with us now to the Caravan Park, the Surf Club, and the Diner as we re-explore those halcyon days. Can you remember it as well you think?
