Netflix have been smashing it with their original releases as of late. The like of Tiger King, Sex Education, and The Last Kingdom (to name just a few) have proven to be major hits. That production line doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon, with another major project dropping tomorrow.
Hollywood is a limited series created by Ryan Murphy (of American Horror Story) and Ian Brennan (of Glee) that looks set to take the site by storm over the coming weeks.
Set in Tinseltown just after WWII, it sees a set of characters try to break into the film industry. Of course doing so is never easy, especially with deeply ingrained prejudices to overcome.
It stars the likes of Darren Criss and Laura Harrier, and you can watch its trailer in full below.
This looks like it will be the big release of the month. Netflix describes the show as follows:
Hollywood follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown — no matter the cost.
Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood's Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender and sexuality that continue to this day.
Provocative and incisive, Hollywood exposes and examines decades-old power dynamics, and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled.
If you are a fan of Murphy and Brennan's previous offerings, this one would certainly seem right up your alley. It offers all the glamour and over-the-top storytelling you would expect to find on American Horror Story or Glee, but also tackles a key issue at its core.
The story of racism, sexism, homophobia, and exploitation in the movie industry at this time is not one that has been told all that often, but Hollywood looks to change all that.
