Kildare senator Fiona O'Loughlin has called for the creation of a new Bank Holiday to coincide with the Late Late Toy Show.
"Every year, all of us look forward to the last Friday in November" said the Fianna Fáil party member.
"The Late Late Tay Show is an institution for children of all ages and has played a big part in Christmas for many years now. For so many it is the beginning of the most wonderful time of the Year
"I feel it deserves to he recognised as festive stand out in the lead up to Christmas.
"To recognise its significance in this regard, and to help children up and down the country prepare for the big night, I think it would be a tree-mendous idea to give them a dedicated hank holiday on that day."
Senator O'Loughlin's suggestion is the latest since the idea of a new Bank Holiday to thank workers who have been on the frontline during the Covoid-19 pandemic was proposed last year.
The Irish Independent reported earlier this month that a January 31st Bank Holiday to coincide with the following St Brigid's Day would be most likely. It was also said that the Bank Holiday would probably be a one-off rather than a permanent date.
