Easter Sunday is a great day to sit down in front of a classic film with the family and luckily there is a huge amount to choose from today and tonight, covering all of the bases.

As usual, all of these films are available on non subscription channels, though may not be on all platforms.

Ice Age: 12.50pm, Film Four

Year: 2002

Cast: John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Denis Leary

Plot: Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe. (IMDB)

Rating: 77% (Rotten Tomatoes)

The sequels may have lost the run of themselves but the original has it's moments and makes for decent Sunday afternoon fare.

 

Big Fish: 1.15pm, Sony Movie Channel

Year: 2003

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup

Plot: A frustrated son tries to determine the fact from fiction in his dying father's life. (IMDB)

Rating: 75% (Rotten Tomatoes)

If you're looking for a heartwarming tear jerker to get over your chocolate coma, you couldn't do better that this Tim Burton effort.

Casablanca: 2.00PM, RTE One

Year: 1942

Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman

Plot: A cynical American expatriate struggles to decide whether or not he should help his former lover and her fugitive husband escape French Morocco. (IMDB)

Rating: 98% (Rotten Tomatoes)

One of the greatest films ever made and if you've never seen it before, stop acting the maggot and turn on RTE One at 2 o'clock

Shrek 2: 2.40PM, RTE 2

Year: 2004

Cast: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas

Plot: Shrek and Fiona travel to the Kingdom of Far Far Away, where Fiona's parents are King and Queen, to celebrate their marriage. When they arrive, they find they are not as welcome as they thought they would be. (IMDB)

Rating: 89% (Rotten Tomatoes)

A successful and re-watchable sequel that lacks just a little bit of the first film's charm.

 

The Sting: 3.30PM, ITV4

Year: 1973

Cast: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Robert Shaw

Recommended

Plot: Two grifters team up to pull off the ultimate con. (IMDB)

Rating: 94% (Rotten Tomatoes)

Newman and Redford reform the Butch and Sundance crew. A complicated hustle with a great pace and great performances.

 

Jumanji: 6.30PM, Comedy Central

Year: 1995

Cast: Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt

Plot: When two kids find and play a magical board game, they release a man trapped in it for decades--and a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game. (IMDB)

Rating: 71% (Rotten Tomatoes)

Not the greatest film ever made but if you're in the mood for Robin Williams, you could do worse.

 

Les Miserables: 8.00PM, E4

Year: 2012

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway

Plot: In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The decision changes their lives forever. (IMDB)

If you're into musicals, you're sorted.

 

The Theory of Everything: 9.00PM, RTE 2

Year: 2014

Cast: Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Tom Prior

Plot: A look at the relationship between the famous physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife. (IMDB)

Rating: 79% (Rotten Tomatoes)

A man everybody knows but very few knew too much about.

 

 

A Fish Called Wanda: 10.30PM, BBC One

Year: 1988

Cast: Kevin Cline, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Michael Palin

Plot: In London, four very different people team up to commit armed robbery, then try to doublecross each other for the loot. (IMDB)

Rating: 94% (Rotten Tomatoes)

A mini Python reunion with some American life thrown in form Kline and Curtis.
