Comedian Joe Lycett has gone through with his promise to shred £10,000 of his own money, after he called out David Beckham for his ambassador role with the 2022 World Cup.
Despite his initial criticism of the Qatar World Cup, Beckham received £10 million to promote the tournament, a move which was vilified by LGBTQ supporters, who had seen David Beckham as a strong ally of the community.
To raise awareness for the situation, and highlight the anti-LGBTQ laws in Qatar, Lycett challenged Beckham to give back his £10 million, and step down from his ambassador role.
If he was to do this, Lycett promised to give his own £10,000 to charities, and if not, he was going to shred the money on camera, which he ended up doing earlier today, via his website benderslikebeckham.

If you've held more issue with Joe Lycett shredding £10,000 than David Beckham being paid £10,000,000 to tell everyone how 'good' Qatar is, then you're part of the problem #benderslikeBeckham

Lycett's initial video was filled with humour, but ultimately was mainly about the very serious issue of Qatar's human rights abuses.
"With that in mind I'm giving you a choice," said Lycett.
"If you end your relationship with Qatar I will donate ten grand of my own money (that's a grand for every million you're reportedly getting) to charities that support queer people in football.
"However, if you do not I will throw the money into a shredder at midday next Sunday, just before the opening ceremony of the World Cup and stream it right here.
"Not just the money, but also your status as a gay icon will be shredded.
"Also you'll be forcing me to commit what might be a crime. Although even then, I reckon I'll get off more lightly than I would if I got caught whacking off a lad in Doha.
"The choice is yours. I look forward to hearing from you."
