In a great initiative, a few weeks behind their Irish counterparts, the BBC have launched a home schooling service to get parents and students through the Covid lockdown. BBC Bitesize Daily launched today and it's actually an incredibly thorough offering, with 14 weeks of curriculum-based learning for kids stuck at home.
The headline is no doubt the involvement of worldwide treasure David Attenborough. The 93-year-old will be teaching kids the wonders of Geography. He'll be exploring the oceans, explaining mapping, and helping his students understand why animals looks the way they do.
BBC announcement:
- Sir David Attenborough to educate pupils as part of the new BBC education offering, which starts tomorrow morning.
- He is set to help explain topics like oceans and animals.
- Prof Brian Cox will also teach science, such as the solar system.— Scott Bryan (@scottygb) April 19, 2020
He's just one of a number of celebrities commissioned by the BBC for the programme, and some of the names are a bit mad.
Sergio Aguero of all people will be brought on board to help children with their Spanish, while Danny Dyer is going to be teaching history. Former MP, Stictly contestent, and friend of the site Ed Balls will be on hand to teach Maths, and One Direction's Liam Payne will be teaching kids how to read music.
Luckily, they've also brought in 200 actual teachers as well.
Bitesize Daily, featuring these teachers and more celebrities including Professor Brian Cox, Jodie Whittaker, and Mabel, will air from 9am to 11am every morning on the BBC Red Button and on the iPlayer. It covers all age groups and school levels and is supported by their website bbc.co.uk/bitesize which also offers lessons and other guidelines for students and parents.

Honestly though, we just want to know if it's acceptable fare to avail of the services offered by Attenborough, Aguero, Dyer and the lads even if you haven't been to school in 18 years?
