The above tweet from combat sports journalist, Ariel Helwani, claims that Conor McGregor will have 'a leading role', rather than a cameo, which one might have expected.
Nor does it looks like it will a pure 'cash-grab' movie either, given the personnel involved.
Gyllenhaal has starred in a host critically acclaimed films such as Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, Prisoners, and Donnie Darko.
Director Doug Liman is also well revered within the movie sphere, and has helmed lauded films such as Swingers, The Bourne Identity, and Edge of Tomorrow.
Gyllenhaal will be reprising Patrick Swayze's role as a bouncer at a tough bar. In the new movie, according to Deadline, his character is also a UFC fighter. The role of Conor McGregor has not been specified, but he will play an original part and not himself.
The Amazon Studios movie is set to go into production in the Dominican Republic this month, and will stream on Prime Video.
Liman said of the project, "I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved ‘Road House’ legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”
The film will also feature Lukas Gage, who starred in The White Lotus, and Arturo Castro of Broad City fame.
