Cillian Murphy scored his first ever Oscar nomination yesterday, and is the heavy favourite at 2/5 to take home the best actor award for his stunning portrayal as the titular character in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

The proud Cork man has a reputation for keeping away from the spotlight, as well as having a down-to-earth nature, although it has been difficult to hide from the cameras and interviews given the sheer success of Oppenheimer, which has taken over $950 million at the box office.

He has also given an interview with the New York Times, describing the news, as well as prviding an insight into his preparation for the role:

"Oh man, I had six months. From the moment Chris called me, I just started working — from the inside out and from the outside in.

"I did an awful lot of reading and research and watched every single archival footage about him. Then I immediately started conditioning my body because he was very interesting how he carried himself physically and how slight his frame was.
