Every single film fan probably knows the exact moment when they realised that Borat was the work of a comedic genius/mad man.
Maybe it was the time when Azamat's testicles were resting on Borat's face after their naked wrestling fight through the hotel?
Perhaps it's the moment when Borat just couldn't figure out the correct dinner etiquette after he brought a bag of shit to the table?
However, for this particular writer, it's the absurdity of Sacha Baron Cohen's deadpan delivery when he asks someone if a turtle is in fact "a cat in a hat?"
The man is a genius.
Well, Collider are reporting that a sequel to the 2006 blockbuster comedy “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” has been shot in secret and already screened “for a select few industry types."
The report states that the story for Borat 2 finds the calamitous Kazakh journalist “thinking he’s a big movie star after the success of the original 2006 film made him famous, so he’s trying to hide from the public by pretending to be someone else, and starts meeting and interviewing people incognito.”
Doesn't that just sound perfect?
He's probably married to Pamela Anderson too.
After Borat made $262 million worldwide, it paved the way for Cohen to reprise one of his other comedic creations in Bruno ($138 million) and The Dictator ($179 million).
Aside from the film's financial success, Baron Cohen also won a Golden Globe for his portrayal as the hapless journalist and the film also received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay too.
Baron-Cohen last reprised Borat for a sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in November 2019 which focused on “election tampering”. In July, the comedian also crashed a far-right event in Washington, disguised as a racist bluegrass singer.
As for the idea of Borat 2? There's only one thing to say, great success!
