The awards may not have arrived in the volume that we would have hoped for, but that doesn't mean we can't have a giggle at the best Irish Oscar memes from the big event in Hollywood.
Heading into the Academy Awards, hopes were high that we would see a number of Irish representatives be summoned onto the stage on the night. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon, and Paul Mescal were all nominated for individual acting awards, with The Banshees of Inisherin, An Cailín Cúin, and An Irish Goodbye all in the running for gongs as well.
Unfortunately, the only success on the night was An Irish Goodbye, picking up the award for Best Short Film. Still, it did provide us with a magic moment.

That's not to say there wasn't plenty of praise for our acting stars.
In fact the real star of Banshees of Inisherin, Jenny the Donkey, stole the show on the night.

Unfortunately, it was later revealed that this was not the real Jenny, and was instead some other random donkey. We can't say we don't feel a bit cheated.
Colin Farrell also took the time to call out a highly questionable sketch from Saturday Night Live that featured highly questionable impressions of himself and Brendan Gleeson.

Paul Mescal did not take home the Best Actor gong, but his mammy was proud of him nonetheless.
He has certainly come a long way since portraying a Centra employee on Normal People.
