When it comes to Father Ted and post offices, we all know that the money belonged to Tom anyway, he just didn't want to fill out the forms. This being said, the shotgun was a bit much.
Granted, Craggy Island's most famous lunatic is probably still banned by An Post, but these new stamps will definitely be wanted by fans of the iconic show.
To mark the 25th anniversary of Ireland's most beloved comedy, the main characters and some of their most beloved quotes will be immortalised on a new set of stamps.
An Post has announced that they'll be issuing a set of four stamp designs with each one featuring a phrase that's associated with one of the four main characters.
They state that: "The format for this stamp issue is a booklet of five stamps — four national rate (N) stamps and a repeat of one stamp design as an international rate (W) postage stamp. An Post gratefully acknowledges Hat Trick Productions for the permission granted to reproduce the copyrighted material in this series. "
Truth be told, we'd be pushing for 17million of these bad boys to be made because if they ever got around to putting quotes like "And now to ride Mrs O'Reilly," or "I've had my fun and that's all that matters" on another set, we'd buy them in an instant.
However, given the vast array of superb characters and wonderful one-liners, it's an impossible job to narrow it down to just five, but it's fitting that Ted, Dougal, Jack and Mrs Doyle are all immortalised here.
Speaking with Sky News, Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle) said: "They're gorgeous stamp, really comical and colourful, and capture the essence of the show. The legacy of the show and everyone involved with it lives on with Father Ted's ongoing success and influence on language, on comedy writing and on generations of fans."
In a survey conducted by An Post, 88% of Irish people said they used "Ted-isms" in direct conversation, while 20% quoted the series on a daily basis. After reading the results of that survey, we're wondering one thing - who are these people that don't quote Father Ted on a daily basis?
The stamps are available to buy from today and in terms of their value and quantity, it's €5.70 for the 150k and €4.00 for a miniature sheet of 40k.
