The 2023 National Ploughing Championships got underway on Tuesday and although the Championships brought the weather it also brought the people.
Over 66,000 people, from all parts of the country and elsewhere ascended upon the green fields on Ratheniska in County Laois on Tuesday, September 19th for the first day of the Ploughing.
Despite it being a week for the wellies, umbrellas, and long johns thousands of Irish people didn't let the bad, wet, rainy weather dampen their ploughing experience.
The National Ploughing Championships which is one of the biggest outdoor events in Europe lived up to its name when it was revealed by organisers that on day one 66,250 people passed through the fields of the event despite traffic delays, muddy conditions and heavy rain.

Car left stranded in the Ploughing Championships car park after getting wedged, and stuck in the mud.
Day 2 of the @NPAIE. I say be prepared for a fair walk from where you park as the fields near the ploughing are shut due to the conditions. Bring the wellys! 🚜 #Ploughing2023 pic.twitter.com/B602rPvMBZ

Walkways inside the National Ploughing Championships were completely flooded this year due to heavy rain. You have to feel bad for those who forget to bring their wellies and wet gear.
