The 1975's new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language was the big music release of the weekend and, naturally, there was a big promo drive for frontman Matty Healy and the band to contend with over the past few days.

The band held an event at RoughTrade East in London on Sunday, where Healy and his fellow bandmates signed copies of the new album for eager fans.

One fan filmed Healy's reaction when she gave him her rather Irish name - and the singer could not comprehend it.

1975 singer Matty Healy perplexed by Irish name

Matty Healy is known for being somewhat outspoken and crass in his interactions with fans and the press, a personality which has made him popular among fans of his band The 1975, and a divisive persona to those who do not listen to the band.

The latest in a long line of bizarre interactions with fans came on Sunday, when he was blown away by the pronunciation of a fan's very Irish name at a signing event in London. Twitter user Dervla shared the video of Healy reacting to hearing her name - and the Manchester-born man could not comprehend the pronunciation of the name.

He went on to ask Dervla what her name meant by saying:

Dervla - is that something you move gravel with? Dervla - what is that?

Fans of The 1975 will not be surprised by Matty Healy's reaction, but it certainly has the potential to rub onlookers up the wrong way.

Dervla, however, saw the funny side, and shared a follow up photo of the signature she received from Healy - where he spells her name correctly.

It is not the first incident in recent weeks that has brought Matty Healy to the attention of Irish fans. Just under two weeks ago, he appeared to inadvertently confirm that Irish actor Paul Mescal was engaged to American singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers (Healy is a good friend of Bridgers').

The 1975's new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language has received rave reviews from critics, with an average score of 81 on Metascore. They will play Dublin's 3Arena on the 29th of January next year.
